As I settled into my small room at the retreat house in Rome, I had no idea what the ensuing days had in store. I knew what to expect on paper, but living it out was nothing I could have prepared for. Now, just over a few weeks later, I have a mind full of priceless images (since my camera’s memory couldn’t take anymore), new and budding friendships with which I have the fullest intentions of maintaining, and a powerful strengthening of my faith. Who could’ve imagined that I would have had the unique opportunity of seeing the Holy Father himself on three separate occasions? The experience is surely one I will not soon forget.
From the sight of Rome’s almighty Colosseum, to the walks along the canals of Venice, to the breathtaking scenery of Loretto, the countless statues, churches, and other feats of architecture ensured that there would be no shortage of memories. Seeing the significant people and places – both past and present – that form the foundations of my Catholic faith was enough to leave me speechless, and as cliché as it sounds, I would do it again in a heartbeat.
